A family business that was founded in 1847 in Paris by the jeweller Louis-Francois Cartier. Known as the “jeweller of the king and the king of jewellers” by the British royal family, Cartier has built on this formidable reputation and turned its attention to timepieces.
Cartier is credited with unearthing some of the dying arts in horology. Cartier are famous for their detailed and elaborate “mystery” clocks which feature beautifully crafted bases and designs with the connections for the hour and minute hands being virtually invisible, giving the impression that they are floating. Cartier were also pioneers of the wristwatch and iconic pieces such as the Santos, one of the first wristwatches to be made the Tank, still feature in the Cartier range today.
