Taking the next giant leap and showcasing their skills in creating technically advanced watches, OMEGA has released a watch that not only measures each moment of time on Earth, but also measures time on the planet Mars.
Welcoming the new OMEGA Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer.
The watch, which was developed in order to assist scientists with their research on Mars, was made in partnership with the European Space Agency, and joins OMEGA’s Speedmaster collection.
Displaying OMEGA’s mechanical expertise and the knowledge of their skilled watchmakers, the Marstimer has a precise thermos-compensated quartz movement, with the power being provided by OMEGA’s 5622 Calibre. This enables the watch’s digital and analogue functions to work with high speed and efficiency.
A unique 45mm chronograph, the Marstimer is cased in grade 2 titanium, and can track times across both planets. Further functions, which were developed under a ESA patented license, include an MTC function which tracks Mars’ sol date and time at the prime meridian. This cleverly incorporates the fact that a day on Mars is thirty-nine minutes longer than a day on Earth. The Marstimer also includes a solar compass, which allows true north to be found on both planets.
These unique functions are displayed stylishly with a classic black dial, which is circled by an oxalic anodized aluminium bezel ring in a stunning red hematite colour, which represents the distinctive dust that can be found on Mars.
Alongside the multiple analogue and digital readings, there are Earth and Mars symbols so that each function can be more easily distinguished. As such, the symbols mean it is simple to find the time, on both planets. The style of the watch continues with the seconds hand, which has a beautiful black to red gradient. This is a design code which signals OMEGA’s status as a professional instrument.
The watch also comes with two straps, the grade 2 and 5 titanium bracelet, and a dedicated NATO strap. The NATO strap comes with a strap changing tool. This allows the owner to have an option of two different styles to wear at their choice.
Revealing an array of different functions, whilst staying in keeping with its take on stylish professional watches, OMEGA showcases its innovative technology. In doing so, a brief nod is witnessed to the brand’s heritage, as the watchmaker that created the first watch to be worn on the moon, showing that space travel will always be a part of OMEGA’s legacy.
