Santos de Cartier

By: Amy Brennan-Stephenson

Santos de Cartier
True to its original philosophy, the new Santos de Cartier reflects the innovative, ever changing spirit of its own age.

At the dawn of the 20th century, in the age of engineering, the revolutionary design of the Santos echoed the spirit of speed and progress. The distinctive image heralded a modern era in watchmaking.

Leaving a number of distinctive features unchanged, the original square shape echoes the refinements and symmetry of Parisian geometry of the era. Also unchanged are the eight screws on the bezel, a tribute to the proliferation of mechanical steel structures associated with the golden age of urban architecture.

A multi purpose strap is the defining element of the new Santos de Cartier collection. In keeping with the spirit of our time, the new strap caters to the model lifestyle and easy movement. Available in gold or steel bracelets, and calfskin or alligator skin leather straps, all versions are interchangeable thanks to the Cartier QuickSwitch System.

Another cutting edge feature is the SmartLink self-fitting technology, which allows the wearer to simply adjust the number of links worn on the bracelet at the touch of a button, located on each link.

True to Alberto Santos-Dumont’s constant quest for progress, the 1847 MC automatic calibre features anti-magnetic nickel phosphorus components in the escapement and mechanism, as well as a paramagnetic shield, protecting the watch from the powerful magnetic fields we are exposed to in everyday life.

The screw-down assembly design ensures that the new Santos de Cartier offers water resistance up to 10 bar (100 metres), whilst maintaining minimal case thickness.
