In Depth – The Panthère de Cartier

In Depth – The Panthère de Cartier
Cartier has been creating iconic watches since the brand emerged in 1847. The Ballon de Bleu, Tank and Santos are examples of Cartier’s strong watchmaking pedigree and the Panthère de Cartier is no different. An icon of the 1980’s, the collection has been reimagined for 2017 and given a new lease of life with 15 new references featuring an array of different metals and finishes.

PANTHERE

The elusive panther is described by Cartier as “the perfect icon of the maison” and was first used as inspiration on a watch created by the brand in 1914. The panther motif featured heavily in Cartier’s jewellery following the arrival of Jeanne Toussaint as Director of Jewellery and the original Panthère de Cartier watch collection was released in 1983. The new range retains many of the features found on the original watches and is available in nine distinct finishes/metals and two sizes.

The new Panthère comes in two sizes, small and medium, measuring 22mm and 27mm. Both use the recognisable Panthère square case with screwed-down bezel and feature a linked brick-lay bracelet with concealed folding clasp. Every Panthère is powered by a reliable quartz movement.

The finishes available vary in price, from affordable steel to diamond studded high end pieces.  The finishes are yellow gold, rose gold, rose gold with diamond bezel, white gold with diamond bezel, white gold with diamonds, white gold with diamonds and black enamel animal spots (like the original 1914 watch), steel and yellow gold, plain steel and a special edition rose gold with black links.

We at David M Robinson are happy to see the Panthère make its return and will be delighted to have the collection in our showrooms soon. We will have news about availability and pricing in the near future.
