Top 5 Diving Watches

By: Amy Brennan-Stephenson

Top 5 Diving Watches
Did you know that for a timepiece to be classed as a true diving watch it has to conform to the international ISO 6425 standard, which includes requirements for water, shock and anti magnetic resistance? Diver's watches are instantly recognisable on the wrist and have risen from their functional origins to become style icons in their own right. We've picked 5 favourite dive watches from our current collection. Which is your favourite?

Calibre de Cartier Diver by Cartier

Released at SIHH 2014, the Calibre de Cartier Diver showed the watch world that Cartier was about more than just stylish dress watches – they can produce quality tool watches too. This ISO certified dive watch is water resistant up to 300 metres and features a black rotating bezel and chronograph complication. Light on the wrist with a sleek profile, this may just be the most elegant diver’s watch out there.

Sea-Dweller 4000 by Rolex

The Sea-Dweller 4000 is the bigger brother of the Rolex Submariner, with a 40mm diameter case and water resistance up to 4000ft. The domed crystal, helium release valve and rotating bezel make this a serious diver’s timepiece and the famous Rolex Oyster bracelet can be extended up to 26mm, allowing it to be worn over a wetsuit.

Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Amagnetic 3 Days

Beneath the recognisable squared Luminor Submersible case lies a soft iron casing, designed to create a Faraday cage which protects the Luminor Submersible 1950  Amagnetic 3 Days P.9000 movement from magnetic fields. This feature means the watch operates with the highest level of accuracy – an essential requirement in a dive watch. Panerai’s legendary Luminor material make this watch highly legible in low light conditions.

Tudor Pelagos

The Pelagos is a no-nonsense matte finish titanium dive watch, powered by Tudor’s in house MT5612 movement. The watch takes elements from Tudor’s back catalogue of diving timepieces, such as the iconic “snowflake” hands, while using new and innovative technology like the floating clasp bracelet, a feature also found on the Rolex Deepsea. The Pelagos is destined to step out from the Rolex shadow and become a classic timepiece in its own right.

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-axial

The Seamaster Diver 300M, with its enduring connection to the world’s favourite secret agent, is one of the most popular watches in OMEGA’s collection. Combining the aesthetic appeal of a timeless and sporty timepiece with the Co-Axial calibre 2500, the Seamaster Diver 300M is truly a lasting treasure. The stainless steel timepiece has a lacquered black or blue dial with a matching polished ceramic diving bezel.
