The third annual Merseyside Women of the Year awards took place on the 24th June 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Liverpool. David M Robinson were extremely proud to be able to sponsor the Arts & Culture award at this year’s event, an award that was justifiably won by Liverpool born opera singer, Kathryn Rudge, and inspirational choreographer, Lisa Simpson.
The David M Robinson Arts & Culture Award is to celebrate and acknowledge the women that have shown a commitment and influence towards helping others flourish and grow within creative spaces. The women that have provided encouragement and opportunities for others to excel within a sector that has a major impact on communities and the people who live in them.
Lisa Simpson is a remarkable choreographer. She doesn’t let her quadriplegia cerebral palsy and non-verbal communication hold her back in anything she does. Developing her own “Simpson Board”, she has provided other non-verbal communicators with the opportunity to choreograph too. She works tirelessly to help and encourage others to reach their full potential regardless of disability. She is held in high regard by everyone that has worked with/works with her and is a worthy recipient of this award.
Kathryn Rudge is another woman who truly deserves this award. Having already become one of the UK’s leading young opera singers, Kathryn founded Mersey Wave Music in 2012, a community based group in South Liverpool which originally formed a mixed adult choir/young singers group. A strong advocate of the belief that music should be accessible to everyone, Kathryn is passionate about making musical opportunities available for everyone in the heart of Merseyside communities. The Mersey Wave Project has enriched a lot of people’s lives already with a 70 strong community choir and regular crowds of 400+ people.
The evening itself was a fantastic affair hosted by comedian Pauline Daniels, with the overall title of Merseyside Woman of the year went to Roz Tranfield, a woman with an inspirational story battling breast cancer and raising over £35,000 for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.
