Baselworld 2016: Our Thoughts

By: Amy Brennan-Stephenson

Baselworld 2016: Our Thoughts
So that’s it for another year. Baselworld 2016 has yet again been one of the highlights of our year and we’re already eagerly anticipating 2017’s showcase. There have been some amazing previews in Basel, and here’s our wrap up of our favourite moments and items.

The Rolex Daytona Cosmograph

We had to start with this one. It has been the talk of the show right from the very second it opened. It was one of our favourite watches as soon as we laid our eyes on it and again, it isn’t very difficult to see why. It’s a stunning watch and definitely one for every Rolex enthusiast out there.

Georg Jensen’s Collaboration with Zaha Hadid

We don’t need to tell you how very much in love we are with Georg Jensen, and the revealing of their debut collaboration with renowned architect Zaha Hadid reaffirmed our love affair with the jewellery designers. Every piece from the eight piece collection stole a little bit of our hearts, and in particular the Lamellae Twisted Cuff – the centrepiece of the collection. We’re looking forward to its availability later this year.

OMEGA’s Grey Side of The Moon

Speedmaster Grey Side of The Moon

This watch is one of the top watches on our wishlist for 2016. Featuring a real piece of space meteorite, the watch is an amazing work of art. We were big fans of how the watch looked and felt when wearing it, and the grey colour scheme is a perfect choice for the piece and complements the meteorite dial superbly.

The Tudor Advisor Cognac

A fine reinterpretation of a 1957 classic, the Tudor Advisor Cognac is one of our favourites from this year’s releases. The burgundy colour scheme provides a sophisticated look and the brown leather strap is a great addition too.

The Raymond Weil/Beatles Collaboration

Two things we have a lot of time for: Raymond Weil watches and The Beatles. We were extremely excited when this collaboration was announced and we were even more excited when we actually got to try one of the pieces on. This watch is a great tribute to the Fab Four and a perfect way for Raymond Weil to celebrate 40 years of supporting the music industry.

Patek Philippe’s World Time Chronograph

World Time Chronograph

It was one of the anticipated watches at Baselworld 2016 and it didn’t disappoint. Superb in not only looks but also in functionality, the World Time Chronograph really impressed us and we’re looking forward to it becoming available.

The TAG Heuer Monza Chronograph

Tag Heuer Monza Chronograph

A brilliant offering from TAG Heuer this year, and our favourite had to be the Monza Chronograph. A reinventing of a classic watch that was commissioned to celebrate Niki Lauda’s world championship, the 2016 Monza Chronograph is a perfect tribute to both a classic watch, and the legacy of Formula 1.

Longines’ Dolcevita Range

The Dolcevita offerings at this year’s Baselworld were superb examples of what Longines do best: Glamour and sophistication. When we tried these on we were instantly impressed by the sleekness of the watches and just how perfect they personify Longines’ ethos.

Baselworld 2016 has been extremely exciting and we’ve enjoyed every minute we’ve spent here, we never want the doors to close but unfortunately they must for another year, we hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage of this year’s showcase and have been just as excited as we have about every new release.
