It was in 1860 that Giovanni Panerai founded the family business in Florence on the Ponte alle Grazie. From 1890 and under the guidance of Guido Panerai (grandson of Giovanni) the firm started to specialise in high precision mechanisms and became the official supplier to the Royal Italian Navy. From then the business has grown and gone from strength to strength.
